Best of both worlds
Last Friday, the whole crew at Four Digits went to see an extraordinary show. Het Gelders Orkest, Gif.t and 8Bahn got together and created 'The Cloud', a show that combines a dance act with both classical music and dance beats. Since we enjoy the sound of 8Bahn and because we support Het Gelders Orkest all of us wanted to see the result of this joint operation. It was a great performance.
This particular show is 100 percent 'Made in Arnhem'. 8Bahn, Gif.t and Het Gelders Orkest are based here and each of them is leading in what they do. It is quite a job to come up with a concept that uses violins as well as computers and samplers but they pulled it off. The event was even more special because of the venue, which is an abandoned area nowadays, but it used to be a military base and that really adds up to the special atmosphere and feel.
Now for the show itself. The artistic leaders had chosen themes like freedom and man vs machine, wrapped in a story that started in the roaring twenties. Think uniforms, night clubs, industrial contraptions and an overall dark setting with dancers and musicians. The whole show lasted about an hour. After that, 8Bahn fired up their sound system for a mind-blowing after party.
I look forward to see more projects like The Cloud. It's new, it's ground breaking and people who are into classical music learn a whole new kind of sound and the other way around. If you have the chance to see this performance, you definitely should. There are two more shows on June 14th and 16th. A must see if you are into modern dance, classical music or techno/house.
The Cloud also proves that it is important to support institutions like Het Gelders Orkest. Especially since the cultural sector faces budget cuts on a large scale. By sponsoring, one really can make a difference. Four Digits is proud to be named partner and we hope to maintain that relationship for a very long time. (photo: EneHarry)
